Bug Pushes Vista Release to November 8th!

Computerworld is reporting that due to a bug in the Windows Vista code that last weeks release was postponed and new date to release to manufacturing is set for November 8th.

The article goes on to state that the Business release will barely make the end of November.

As long as it is available when we go to buy new machines when we have money early next year..I'll be happy.

By the way I have been doing a lot of reading and research about the way Vista handles Group Policies and their templates. Vista uses something called an ADMX file instead of an ADM template. The ADMX file is XML based and contains hundreds more policy settings. Apparently though if you want to use these policies on your 2000/2003 Server you will only be able to do so by using a Vista workstation to control and set them.

New Server Based Computing Search Available from ThinHelp

I have placed almost 100 sites into this search including all of the Microsoft MVP's and Citrix CTP's web sites, Blogs from industry experts and key website KB's.

Morning all,

I've just finished putting the final touches on Citrites' Search (http://citrites.org) which supersedes the existing Citrite.org ( http://citrite.org) search function, combining Google AJAX Search, Google Co-op Search and Google Enterprise Search (for those detected as internal users only, sorry) to give an extremely fast and flexible tabbed interface. citrites.org (plural) was registered about a month ago to complement citrite.org with a search service but until now the existing sitesearch functionality did not provide enough flexibility (the old form at http://citrite.org/search/ is clunky at best).

Citrites' Search currently searches the following information:

• Citrix Sites: Content from scores of Citrix related sites, including citrix.com and citrite.org.
• Support: The official Citrix Knowledge Center site: support.citrix.com
• Forums: Various forums including the official forums at support.citrix.com/forums.
• Citrites: Blogs of Citrix employees and alumni (Citrites' Blogs).
• Citrix.com: All citrix.com content via Google
• Blog: All blogs via Google's Blog Search
• News: All news via Google News search.
• Web: The entire web via traditional Google.
• Video: All video content via Google Video search.

Rather than reinvent the wheel I've plugged Jim's excellent co-op search ( http://www.f1u.com/) into the left panel in place of my own and have a number of other custom coop searches driving the various tabs (the cooperative nature of this product is really quite powerful). I also have refinements set up to isolate documentation, etc. but unfortunately these are not exposed through the AJAX interface as yet.

If you're running Mozilla Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7 (as you should be) you can integrate Citrites' Search seamlessly into the browser by clicking on the link (an OpenSearch Description) at http://citrites.org/opensearch/

I'll be promoting this internally too (primarily for use by Citrix Technical Support) and the more people using and contributing (even if just via feedback) the better it will be. I'm convinced that decent search is going to change the way we work internally and there's no reason it shouldn't help customers and partners too,

Kenzig Given Plaque of Appreciation at Thin Dinner

Well it was totally unexpected and very nicely done. Doug Brown along with Steve Greenberg and Tim Mangan gave me a very nice plaque at the Thin List dinner, in appreciation for all of my 10 years of "dedication" to the thin computing community. If I posted the text of it you would all roll your eyes back into your head. LOL
It really is hard to believe that I have been doing this that long and it makes me feel really old... : ) but I guess now I have a plaque to prove it. Below is a pick pulled from the hundreds I've taken at Citrix iForum. I have placed a link in the right column so they are easier for you to find.

All I can say is that I am deeply humbled by this wish to thank Doug, Steve and Tim for their thoughtfulness.
I would also like to thank Doug and Steve for covering my dinner and special thanks to Greg Reese who put the whole thing together this year, 2000 miles away from the Marshall Islands.

ICSWEEP is a command-line utility to clear the Temporary Internet Files cache
of ALL user profiles that are NOT in use when this command is executed.
This utility was written for the purpose of allowing a SINGLE command to
identify and clear Temporary Internet Files cache of ALL user profiles
currently NOT in use. This tool could be simply run from the command
line at any time, or added as a SCHEDULED TASK for regular cleaning of
user profiles, reducing the overall size of a profile and saving disk space
for locally based profiles.

 

ICSWEEP will only function when executed by a user with ADMIN rights to the
profile directory.

Usage:
ICSweep [/?]

  /?   -   show this help file
  No other parameters are required by this program.

 

The program returns a running list of the processed profiles. To store the
output run the following command: ICSWEEP.EXE>ICSWEEP.txt
